Metal Finishing Products

Chem Source Offers Cutting-edge and Performance Proven Products for all Your Metal Finishing Applications

  • Acidic Cleaners - primarily used to remove inorganic soils such as mill or heat scale, rust, and laser scale
  • Alkaline Cleaners - primarily used to remove organic soils such as rust preventative oils, metal forming blends, and lubricants
  • Iron Phosphate - can be used independently or can include a cleaning package (also known as cleaner/phos) to reduce the number of stages in a process.  Iron phosphate is most often used when products require a durable finish but will not be exposed to severely corrosive environments
  • Zirconium Phosphate-Free - often referred to as nanotechnology, silane technology or phosphorus-free pretreatment and is today's most environmental friendly pretreatment.  The many benefits realized from Zirconium based pretreatment is elimination of heated stages, lower maintenance costs, reduction in water consumption, and reduction in waste treatment requirements. While corrosion performance may still be a bit inferior to zinc phosphate, it does pass many specification requirements
  • Zinc Phosphate - is typically used on products that will be subjected to highly-corrosive environments and produces typical coating weight between 150-350 mg/ft2.  Zinc phosphate is primarily used in automotive and military applications and provides for superior corrosion protection when compared to iron and phosphate-free technologies
  • Acidic, Alkaline, and Neutral Sealers - most often applied in the final stage of a pretreatment system for enhanced corrosion and humidity resistance by reacting with any exposed substrate, filling microscopic voids in the phosphate.  The most recent technology is dry-in-place (DIP) sealers and have shown excellent results when compared to traditional non-chrome sealers
  • Rust Inhibitors - used to prevent bare metal surfaces from oxidation while in transport, storage, or as they move about the manufacturing process
  • Wetting Agents - are generally comprised of surfactants used to reduce or eliminate substrate surface tension.  They are often used in pretreatment to enhance cleaning capabilities or promote sheet rinsing for better surface preparation or decreased drying time requirements
